August 31
We have been much more concerned with
being saved than with seeing the kingdom of
God. We say, "If only the need and torment of
our life would cease!"
But now the scales must fall from our eyes. We
must recognize that it is the kingdom of God we
are to strive for above all else, and that only in
the kingdom of God will we find true salvation. If
we want our salvation first and only after that the
kingdom of God, then there will never be any
light on the earth; misery will increase, and
darkness will not be held in check.
No, we will not think of our salvation; we will not
seek our own good first. We want to be servants!
We want to seek his salvation, his glory, his
kingdom--and then everything else will be
added unto us!
Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, from
Die, and Jesus Will Live, Advent: The Coming of
the Kingdom.
