Pastoral letter #47 from resurrected saint.

Saint Thomas the Divine on Good Parenting

I had a very interesting conversation with my uncle a while ago. We
talked about what it takes to raise kids, not that I have any yet, but
he has several. My uncle Jack seems to think that as long as a kid has
a mind, he doesn't have to be controlled to much! This is pretty much
a recipe for disaster I think.

Look, most of the women down here on good old terra firma are not
going to be giving birth to arrant gods alright; there are perhaps
only ten percent of women that can do this and they are not going to
be accessible to most men. Mostly what you are working with here are
mere human beings and these can need guidance, I think you will all
agree. The great problem is that most of the people that have kids are
nothing more than this themselves which is why their advice isn't
worth a hill of beans. Who would accept human testimony about
anything?

Good parenting is a sublimely im****tant skill that most people just do
not possess; it takes love, knowledge, a firm hand, strength,
sensitivity and a good deal of plain old common sense. If you are
going to take someone's advice on how to do it, take God's - the
Bible's.

I know that one day I am going to be a great dad, and not just a good
one because I am a god. My advice in life is: Be the kind of Jew Moses
or Elijah the Tishbite or John the Baptist would look up to while
becoming a Christian. We the kings of Israel know the best way to
raise men and women that can do all things; take our advice! The
reason I have failed in life is basically because my parents didn't
know what they were doing; this is to everyone's benefit down here,
for by my stripes, men are healed. To understand that I am God is to
see all things. In life, it's not just your own specialness that
matters; much of what happens with you and to you will also depend on
how special everybody else is too. Go where others don't and see.
Anybody that doesn't think you are anything special when you are
obviously this just doesn't work. Everybody is at least a little
special, of course, being creations of a Holy God, but to have been
that great man of the earth that no one had a mind to acknowledge to
the correct degree was damning evidence to the contrary.

Peace!
