Why these things happen (Abu Ghraib, Nikken) ... -

Events like those in the Abu Ghraib pictures seem inexplicable,
outside of the Lotus Sutra view of Nichiren's Buddhism:

.. (http://sgi-usa.org/buddhism/library/
   ... see section VI.)

In the Three Existences of past, present and future ... which are in
reality a single (long) moment of eternity and not truly separable
from what we perceive as moment to moment existence ...

The tortures over the last twenty years at Abu Ghraib prison are still
going on there. So when seeming innocent people (like Pfc. Lynndie
England) step through the doors and start to exercise detention type
activities .... ?

..... the same crimes start occurring again !!!

So they become Saddam's torturers, by a kind of harmonic induction.
Also Rumsfeld occupying Saddam's palace becomes Saddam, by the same
principle. Counteracting this effect will be found to be most
difficult, as the evil was progressively worse, and the duration of
that evil longer. A true horror takes a strong mind not to imitate,
and become infected by.

Also, the horrible place will also draw to it, people with a strong
component of that horror in their lives, like Specialist Charles
Graner, and the military intelligence operatives who do not appear in
the pictures, but manipulate the outcome from a safe distance. These
activities manifest the function of Takejizaiten, the Devil King of
the Sixth Heaven, who plays his human minions like puppets on strings.

Rule number one: when you occupy a place of horror, knock the horrible
buildings down. Don't reuse buildings from profound evildoers, because
you will find that they are still actually there, in the Three
Existences.

People foolishly want to challenge this phenomenon, to do "mind over
matter", will quickly find that there is no such thing. Which is why
Nikken's visit to the Zen cemetary was such an arrogant mistake.

As Nikko admonished the followers of his Fuji School in the 6th of his
26 Admonitions:

.. 6. Lay believers should be strictly prohibited from
.. visiting [heretical] temples and shrines. Moreover,
.. priests should not visit slanderous temples or shrines,
.. which are inhabited by demons, even if only to have a
.. look around. To do so would be a pitiful violation [of
.. the Daishonin's Buddhism.] This is not my own personal
.. view; it wholly derives from the sutras [of Shakyamuni]
.. and the writings [of Nichiren Daishonin].

And also, as Nichiren states in the "Entity of the Mystic Law", WND p.
417-418:

.. Question: If the entity of all living beings is the
.. Mystic Law in its entirety, then are all the actions and
.. their results that are associated with the nine worlds,
.. from the world of hell up to that of bodhisattvas, in
.. effect entities of the Mystic Law?
..
.. Answer: The mystic principle that is the essential
.. nature of phenomena possesses two aspects, the defiled
.. aspect and the pure aspect. If the defiled aspect is
.. operative, this is called delusion. If the pure aspect
.. is operative, this is called enlightenment.
.. Enlightenment constitutes the realm of Buddhahood.
.. Delusion constitutes the realms of ordinary mortals.
..
.. These two aspects, the deluded and the enlightened, are
.. indeed two different phenomena, and yet both are
.. workings of the one principle, that is, the essential
.. nature of phenomena, or the true aspect of reality. It
.. is like a piece of crystal. If the crystal is placed in
.. the sun's rays, it will attract them and produce fire.
.. But if it is placed in the moon's rays, it will produce
.. water. The crystal is a single entity, but the effects
.. it produces differ according to the cir***stances.
..
.. The mystic principle of the true aspect of reality is
.. like this. The mystic principle of the true aspect of
.. reality is one, but if it encounters evil influences, it
.. will manifest delusion, while if it encounters good
.. influences, it will manifest enlightenment.
.. Enlightenment means enlightenment to the essential
.. nature of phenomena, and delusion, ignorance of it.

There is a hopeful point here as well. If you wish to be in harmony
with your deceased mother, don't visit her gravesite, she was never
there. Visit the place she was happiest, and pursue the same
pursuits ... there you will find her emanation into the current moment
from the past moment, which is not really gone, and which for you,
never will be.

From "The Entity of the Mystic Law", Writings of Nichiren Daishonin,
p. 426 ...

In the final analysis, the meaning of the Lotus Sutra is that the
metaphor is none other than the entity of the Law and that the entity
of the Law is none other than the metaphor. That is why the Great
Teacher Dengyo in his commentary says: "The Lotus Sutra contains a
great many metaphors and parables. However, when it comes to the major
parables, we find that there are seven of them. These seven parables
are none other than the entity of the Law, and the entity of the Law
is none other than these metaphors and parables. Therefore, there is
no entity of the Law outside of the metaphors and parables, and there
are no metaphors and parables outside of the entity of the Law. In
other words, the entity of the Law refers to the entity of the truth
of the essential nature of phenomena, while the metaphors and parables
represent the entity of the Mystic Law as manifested in actual
phenomena. The manifestations are none other than the entity of the
truth, and the entity of the truth is none other than the
manifestations. Therefore, it can be said that the Law and its
metaphors constitute a single entity. This is why the passages from
the treatises and the annotations by the Tendai school all explain the
lotus as both the Law itself and a metaphor for it."
