I never cease to be amazed by apologetics for LDS and the absolutely
insane garbage that flowed from the mind of Joseph Smith and
subsequent "prophets" of this strange cult. IMHO, the cosmology and
science fiction aspect of Mormonism is by far crazier than anything
from Hubbard.
And the best part is that LDS has, in its possession, proof positive
that Smith was nothing more than a conman with a charismatic
personality. Ask them about the Egyptian scrolls that Smith translated
into the book of Abraham. The scrolls are nothing more than common
burial do***ents that have been found in dozens of ancient Egyptian
burial sites. Smith even had a real Egyptian mummy for a while, and
used it in a kind of sideshow.
Last century, LDS funded a study of the scrolls, but when every
expert, including one hired especially by a member of their own flock,
stated that they were common burial do***ents and had nothing to do
with Abraham or any of the other prophets, they conveniently put them
away in storage and don't speak of them any more. Yet the book of
Abraham is still considered canon in the LDS religion.
Do you know that no one, and I mean no one, ever saw the golden plates
except Joseph Smith? Do you know that the original 3 elders of Smith's
church were all excommunicated? These were the guys who served as his
scribes as he "translated" the tablets.
Thanks to DNA, we also now know that there are no native American
people who share genetic traits with Jews. Their DNA is most closely
related to asiatic populations, and pretty much proves that native
Americans descended from Asian people who came to the Americas over
the frozen Bering strait into North America.
