Taking a quick look on www.northvegr.org for the first
reference I could find gives a lot worse than that:
Loki in the Lokasenna
22. Be silent, Odin!
Thou never couldst allot
conflicts between men:
oft hast thou given to those
to whom thou oughtest not -
victory to cowards.
The reference I was thinking of referred to arrows flying
on the field of batte taking out folks randomly. I could
continue to look for it at Loi's point is about duels not
battles but the point is close enough.
There are folks who like to pick and chose among the parts
of the lore they accept. I'm one such as I discard the
introduction to the Snorri Edda with its tale of the Aesir
being humans from Asia. I'll pass on calling Odin
essentially Odysseus thanks. But some of them do stuff
like ignore the old oath of toasting to the two blood brothers
together. As if following a battle leader didn't already invite
chaos into your life. Which is a pretty good metaphor for
why that blood brotherhood is mentioned in the Lokasenna.
I don't think any Odin dedicant is much interested in
placating anyways. Wear a Valknut, understand that it
means he can harvest you any time, think it's a part of the
deal. Thanks for noticing that I chose a crappy example.
I tried to do that as a depiction of warped presentations by
the Christians as Scott and I were discussing the warped
presentation of what "to make holy" means.
