THE GOD OF TRUTH
Why some Churches dissolve
To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 141-143
To Know:
³Šwho frustrates the omens of liars, and makes fools of diviners; who
turns
wise men back, and makes their knowledge foolish.² (Isaiah 44:25)
By the late 1960¹s, the prophets of doom pronounced the Byfield Parish
Church dead and buried. Statistically, things were desperate. The
congregation had dwindled to single figures. During the summer, Sunday
services were cancelled and wor****p was on Wednesday nights. On Sunday, no
one was expected to come. Giving had dried up and the few remaining
wor****pers were burned out. Humanly speaking, hope was all but gone.
God is still in the business of confounding false prophets. The Lord had
plans for this church. He restored us using the gospel message that he
preached to Abraham millennia ago. When Abraham believed God, he believed
the Bible. The Christ, who called Abraham to follow him, is much clearer
to
our understanding these many centuries later. When faith in Christ was
preached at Byfield, people returned to the pews, the budget began to
swell,
and the church revived its zeal to tell the good news near and far. God is
still in the business of defeating the message of false prophets
To Do:
False prophets are with us still. They promise success through succeeding.
Their slogan is, ²Nothing succeeds like success.² In the eyes of God,
success is this: that we place all our hopes on the God who will bring the
future to pass precisely as he has promised.
To Ask:
Father, thank you for revealing that the future is known and therefore it
is
safe to trust you.
