Devotional Guide For the week of May 18, 2008

THE GOD OF TRUTH

About Godıs guarantee

To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 138-140

To Know:

³Šwho confirms the word of his servant, and performs the counsel of his
messengers; who says of Jerusalem, ŒShe shall be inhabited,ı and of the
cities of Judah, ıThey shall be built, and I will raise up their ruinsı;
who
says to the deep, ŒBe dry, I will dry up your riversı; who says of Cyrus,
ŒHe is my shepherd, and he shall fulfill all my purposeı; saying of
Jerusalem, ŒShe shall be built,ı and of the temple, ŒYour foundation shall
be laid.ı² (Is. 44:26-28)

A mother made the mistake of telling her young son the way she really felt
about a neighbor woman. It was not flattering. The woman lived two doors
away and the boy ran up the street to deliver the message. His motherıs
words were not intended for public consumption and never in her wildest
dreams did she expect her boy to broadcast them out in the street. It was
two weeks before the neighborhood returned to normal.

God never says what he doesnıt want heard. Christians are commissioned to
bring Godıs word to the world. God pledges to do what he says. Jesus,
Godıs
superlative servant, said, ³You search the scriptures, because you think
that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to
me;
yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.² (Jn. 5:39,40) Also
he
said, ³Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly
in
heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my
burden is light.² (Matt. 11:28-30) And again he said, ³All that the Father
gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out.²
(Jn. 6:37)

To Do:

Have you trusted yourself to Christ? Until we belong to God, he is not
pledged to act toward us according to all he has promised in his word.
When
we trust the Savior, God guarantees that he will act for us according to
his
promise.

To Ask:

Father, I trust myself to you.
