THE GOD OF TRUTH
About God working for good
To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 144-146
To Know:
³For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by
your
name, I surname you, though you do not know me.² (Is. 45:4)
Reverend and Susan Parsons had a new son. On February 18, 1750 a fourth
son
was born to the Byfield pastor. Theophilus grew into greatness and his
parents had good reason to believe that it would be so. One day, before
the
boy outgrew his crib, an old woman in the parish came to visit Susan and
announced that her newborn would one day be a famous judge. The woman was
right.
We now foretell the *** of the unborn. We determine the *** of infants
still
forming inside the womb. We might even make an educated guess at the
characteristics of this new person if we know the family traits of the
parents. No one can guess what events will occur in a personıs lifetime.
Only God knows what will happen to any of us. The most comforting fact in
life is this -- that God does, indeed, know the plans he has for us and
that
nothing can thwart them.
When Israel stood in desperate need of salvation, the God of grace raised
up
a great world leader whom he personally named to rescue the nation. Cyrus
did not know the Lord but the Lord knew Cyrus and saved his people through
him.
To Do:
We must remember that when the Lord gives us faith in the name of Christ
he
also makes everything in creation to work for our good. We are all tempted
to accept life as it seems on the surface. Left to ourselves, we easily
call
bad things bad and good things good. God calls us to renew our minds and
recognize that, ²in everything God works for good with those who love
him,
are called according to his purpose.² (Romans 8:28)
To Ask:
Father, thanks for knowing me.
