About living righteously
To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 85-87
To Know:
³Šwhat are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.²
(Eph.1:18)
Because the United States is a rich nation, it abundantly provides for the
needs of the people. Ours is a land laden with trees, laced with veins of
valuable ore, blessed with an endless breadbasket, and watered by five
Great
Lakes. Because we are rich beyond belief, we are able to provide for
ourselves all out of pro****tion to the rest of the world.
When Paul writes, ³What are the riches of his glorious inheritance,² he
has
in mind the provision of God. God glories in being God. He glories in
being
who and what he is. What it means to be God is to be the source of all
things. Paul asks the Corinthians, ³ŠWhat have you that you did not
receive?² (1 Cor.4:7) The God of the Bible created and sustains the world.
To live righteously is to live in conscious dependence on the Lord. This
is
to say that to live a life that is right in the sight of God, one must
trust
in his provision, that is, Jesus Christ.
To Do:
Adam and Eve ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and
thereby
declared their independence. We can provide for ourselves is what they
were
saying. ³God, you have not provided enough,² was the message they sent
back
to heaven by the act of eating from the forbidden tree. God has placed all
he is and has in Christ. Do we want to be righteous? Then we must believe,
because righteousness is the obedience of faith whose object is Jesus
Christ
the Lord.
To Ask:
Father, you have withheld nothing from the man or woman who will walk with
you by faith in Christ. Enable the eyes of our heart to be enlightened
that
we may see the wealth that is ours in him.
