About a life-giving force
To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 79-81
To Know:
³ Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is
the
hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious
inheritance in the saints.² (Eph.1: 18)
To flee persecution, the Pilgrims left their home in Scrooby, England.
First
they went to Holland. Ten years later they moved again. This time they
sailed to the New World. They might as well have gone to Mars. Crossing
3000
miles of angry ocean was a superhuman adventure for 17th century men and
women. John Robinson, their pastor, knew they needed hope. Robinson
promised
his flock that God would go ahead of their voyage and meet them in
Massachusetts. The Lord would, said Robinson, grant them more truth and
light from his holy Word. They went and he did.
When we walk with the Lord, it is by faith in him and he is our hope. Our
hope is that the same Lord who accompanied the Pilgrims to Plymouth will
be
with us while we are away from his visible presence.
To Do:
We are commanded to transpose what we read in the Bible into daily living.
Scripture is full of hope. God is in charge. Everything but everything
weaves into a pattern at work in the lives of those who trust in the Lord
and seek to fulfill his purpose. The Lord, who is in absolute control of
the
entire world, is with us. He will not fail to do as he has promised. The
best is yet to come. Let us keep these things in mind as day by day we
walk
in faith.
To Ask:
Father, hope is a life-giving force. Enliven hope in us by the word that
you
yourself inspired in order to give our faith strength.
