Devotional Guide For the week of April 6, 2008
LIFE FOREVERMORE
Why we are here
To read the Bible in one year, today read Psalms 31-33
To Know:
³No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the
Fatherıs
side has made him known.²
(Jn. 1:18)
To understand the Bible, it is vital to see the big picture. Scripture
reveals the person and purpose of God. By using our unaided minds we can
never figure out who God really is or what he is really up to. In his
gospel
John writes, ³No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom
of
the Father, he has made him known.² (Jn. 1:18)
Our son Alex had me figured. Of our four children, he was the one who
would
steal into the bedroom early in the morning, after his mother went
downstairs, to lie quietly beside me for the few minutes before I awoke.
As
a four year old, he developed an instinct that told him that when he
sinned
it was possible to plead with me for a lesser sentence. By being close, he
gained knowledge of me that the outside world would only know if he told
them. John tells us that Jesus knows God the Father to a depth that we can
only know by listening to him.
To Do:
We are the only Jesus that some people will ever see.
As Christians, our marching orders are to walk in the footsteps of Jesus
Christ. The Bible intends to reveal the person of God and his purpose for
the world. He mediates his presence by placing his image in the created
order. We humans bear that image. We were created to make God appear.
Because Jesus alone knows his Father, we can only fulfill our human
destiny
by being friends of Jesus Christ.
To read the Bible in one year,
