Devotional Guide For the week of March 30, 2008
CAN WE BE PURE?
About seeing faith
To read the Bible in one year, today read Judges 10-12
To Know:
³Now the Lord said to Abram, Go from your country and your kindred and
your
fatherıs house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a
great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you
will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who curses
you
I will curse; and by you all the families of the earth shall bless
themselves.ı² (Gen.12: 1-3)
By faith, Alexis left home for Los Angeles. Since eighth grade, acting had
won her recognition. She believed that she could succeed in a wider world.
Four times since last summer, we have watched her on TV.
Four thousand years ago Abraham left home by faith. He was not heading for
Hollywood. Abraham was bound for the land God himself planned to visit as
the second Adam. Abraham left, having heard the voice of God. ³Faith comes
from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ.²
(Rm.10: 17) Jesus said, ³Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he
saw
it and was glad.² (Jn.8: 56) Was not Christ referring to that day Abraham
heard the word of God tell him to go to the land of promise?
To Do:
If a nineteen-year-old girl can trust her teen successes enough to move
across the breadth of North America, why do we not trust Godıs word enough
to walk in the way of Jesus Christ? Is it because Godıs reward is not as
plain to see as Alexisıs rewards for her work on film? The rewards are
his
promises that we see by faith. They are future. Faith alone enables us to
walk away from this life into the one for which we have been redeemed by
the
blood of Christ.
To Ask:
Father, increase my faith that I might be able to walk away from the life
from which you have saved me to live the life for which you have saved me.
