FREEDOMıS HOLY LIGHT
Why Bible reading
To read the Bible in one year, today read Ezra 4-6
To Know:
³The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to
advice.² (Prov.12: 15)
When my classmates and I were getting our driving licenses, cars had stick
shifts. Sandy barely had his license when he parked his fatherıs car
behind
Hillıs Menıs Store over in Ipswich. Sandy had pulled the car in head on
when
he parked. To leave, he shifted into reverse, turned to watch out the back
window, and eased out the clutch. Being a new driver, he mistakenly
shifted
into second gear, rather than reverse. When the clutch took hold, Sandy
drove forward into a telephone pole. What causes Christians to backslide
in
their faith? Like Sandy, most donıt slide back on purpose.
The Bible warns us that we can be wrong even when we think weıre right.
Solomon wrote, ³There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is
the way to death.² (Prov.16: 25) Scripture warns us not to take direction
from our fleshly desires. Flesh is more than bodily life; it is a
spiritual
reality. By flesh the Bible means human personality minus the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit speaks to us in the Bible. Since the Bible is divinely
inspired, the scriptures are able to head us in the right direction.
To Do:
The content of some books is quickly and easily understood. The Bible is
not
one of them. Reading the word of God is more like dining. By studying
scripture, we receive food for our spirit. Meals are eaten morning, noon,
and night. The Bible is to be read daily. The words of scripture feed our
faith. When we neglect the Bible, it is entirely possible to be living in
reverse, while we imagine that we are going forward.
To Ask:
Father, help me establish a regular program of Bible reading.
