About silencing the Bible

Devotional Guide For the week of March 2, 2008

FREEDOMıS HOLY LIGHT

About silencing the Bible

To read the Bible in one year, today read 2 Chronicles 31-33

To Know:

³Thus says the Lord: ŒLet not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not
the
mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;
but
let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that
I
am the Lord who practice steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the
earth; for in these things I delight, says the Lord.ı² (Jer. 9:23,24)

Using the ³F² word, an angry young man cursed out his high school
principal.
Immediately the young manıs freedom of speech was defended. Had that same
teenager spoken out in school about Jesus Christ he would have been
expelled. Why does free speech not include the Bible?

The founders of the United States of America were weaned on the name of
Jesus Christ. The principles of Christıs kingdom were reworked into a
civic
order that became the ³American Way.² The consent of the governed was
found
in the Bible. That consent is faith. Faith is the way a person assents to
the revealed will of God. The first persons elected to office in this
country were the pastors of the Congregational Churches. The separation of
powers is rooted in the biblical teaching that human nature is fallen and
that except for the grace of God the rulers of this age will eventually
use
their power to tyrannize the citizens. We have watched the judiciary take
this frightening turn in our time. It was the intent of the framers of our
constitution that legislators, not judges, determine our laws. Today
courts
have acted to make law, rather than decide their constitutionality. An
autonomous judiciary is no less dangerous than a sovereign king.

Israel enjoyed a balance of powers 3500 years ago. The king, the priests,
and the prophets were a check on each other. The Bible shaped the thinking
of men like John Adams and his colleague Theophilus Parsons of Byfield.
The
scriptures of the Old and New Testament helped shape our nation. If the
Bible is silenced, will not our nation be taken from us?

To Ask:

Father, give us wisdom to preserve this great nation.
