Hi,
I have been looking at and enjoying On Mars Hill for a week or two.
It is great.
For those who want to discuss without the insults it is tops.
Much of the discussion is not for beginners in the faith - but no one
is put down.
In fact if a writer shows that they are young in the faith, or at
least not knowledgeable in a subject the principals of the site seem
to take special delight in helping them get informed on the subject
and answering their questions.
The principals seem to have a teaching bent and a desire to equip the
saints so that we all grow up into maturity.
Some other sites I have dabbled in recently were also more in-depth -
but the tendency of the moderators was very much a feeling of
spiritual and intellectual snobbery - and a put down if you pressed
the point when you disagreed with them.
Not so On Mars Hill. The Moderators and principals there are
penetrating in their questions - but never (to my observation)
ungracious nor do they ridicule you if they disagree with you. Their
questions are truly to make you think about other options.
Also:
(i) They actually encourage other views.
(ii) Their system of classification of discussions, etc, is by far the
superior of anything else I have seen.
(iii) And they work at keeping discussion threads on track.
Discussions are just not allowed to wander over the whole range of
philosophy, life and Christian theology. One has to keep to the point.
There are clear advantages in all this.
And, Most im****tant, the principals behind the site seem to have the
commitment to uphold their ideals. I hope that they can when the
member****p numbers tens of thousands and thousands upon thousands. As
I am sure it soon will because it is vastly superior to just about any
other discussion board.
Try it out and see.
Disclaimer: Other than I have just joined On Mars Hill and have
contributed to some discussions there I have no other connection with
it.
